Greenhill Winery & Vineyards Announces Partnership with Michael Shaps Wineworks

Award-Winning winemaker to craft high-end wines at Greenhill

Owner David Greenhill is proud to announce Greenhill Winery & Vineyards’ partnership with Michael Shaps Wineworks. Shaps, along with his vineyard management team, will collaborate with Associate Winemaker, Ben Comstock, and General Manager, Jed Gray, to craft premier Virginia wines.

“This announcement comes at an exciting time as this month marks five years since we opened our doors to the public,” Greenhill said.

Known for his innovation and winemaking expertise, Shaps has established himself at the forefront of the Virginia wine industry. In addition to his Wineworks business in Charlottesville, Virginia, he also owns and manages a winery in Burgundy France, where he studied and trained to be a winemaker in the early 1990s. He has won numerous awards, presented at wine conferences in California and throughout the East Coast, and consulted for dozens of reputable wineries in the mid-Atlantic region.

“I am very pleased to be working with the team at Greenhill. David’s commitment to producing the best possible grapes and wine in Virginia won me over and I hope that the new wines will reflect our shared vision of excellence,” Shaps said.

While Shaps plans to preserve and elevate Greenhill’s flagship labels, he will work with the team to produce a wider range of single varietal labels.

“In particular, I am very excited for our first single varietal, Petit Verdot, that we will release this fall,” Gray said.
