Piedmont Driving Club: A Mother’s Day Carriage Drive
Photos by Joanne Maisano
Members of the Piedmont Driving Club and their guests enjoyed a lovely Mother’s Day picnic carriage drive Sunday, May 14.
If you happened to be driving down Foxcroft Road Sunday afternoon, you may have felt like you stepped back in time, as 11 “turnouts” (horse and carriages) trotted briskly out of Farmer’s Delight and down Foxcroft Road to tour Huntland, the historic Middleburg farms owned by Dr. Betsee Parker, followed by a scenic drive down the country lanes of Middleburg. A traditional tailgate picnic was held on the lawn by the private chapel at Farmer’s Delight following the drive.
Carl Cox, president of Piedmont Driving Club and lead “whip” for the drive, organizes approximately 45 picnic carriage drives throughout the year. For more information regarding Piedmont Driving Club, please visit the website at piedmontdrivingclubva.com. ML
