Nine Loudoun County Residents Receive Diplomas, Accolades from Foxcroft School
Foxcroft celebrated the Class of 2023 during the School’s 109th Commencement.Â
MIDDLEBURG, VA — Middleburg residents Molly Catlett, Lucy Moan, Winley Turner, Olivia Warr, and Ellie Wicht; Kuiper Schaffer of Ashburn; Alexa Cuozzo and Isabelle Munoz of Leesburg; and Helen Ventikos of Purcellville were among the 43 students from eight countries, eight states, and the District of Columbia to graduate from Foxcroft School on May 26, 2023.
These students are members of an impressive class, which collectively received 171 offers of admission from 106 colleges and universities, with 18 students receiving 53 merit scholarships totaling almost $3 million. Members of the class will attend Boston College, Boston University, Emory University, Northeastern University, Olin College of Engineering, Purdue University, Syracuse University, The College of William and Mary, University of Texas at Austin, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Yale University, among others. They have eight AP Scholars, one AP Scholar with Honor, and four AP Scholars with Distinction. Eight are members of the Cum Laude Society, and six hold a transcript designation in Foxcroft’s Academic Concentration program: three in STEM, two in Global Studies, and one in The Arts. Seven received 19 regional recognitions in The Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards, one earning a prestigious national Gold Key. Four are members of the International Thespian Society, one with the highest rank of Honor Thespian for more than 1,800 hours of service in theater productions.
AP Scholar with Distinction, Cum Laude Society member, and winner of the 2023 Josie Betner Mallace Prize for courage and humor, Molly Catlett was an active leader on campus serving as co-head of the Athletic Association, dorm prefect, and head of the Soggie Cheerios singing group. An enthusiastic member of the Hound spirit team, Molly was chosen to serve as cheerleader by her peers. She was also an accomplished rider. The daughter of Mary Munford of Middleburg and Tom Catlett of Richmond, VA, Molly will pursue her studies as an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia.
Lucy Moan was a true scholar-athlete while at Foxcroft. A member of the Cum Laude Society and an AP Scholar, she also received the Best Athlete Older Girl Award. Lucy was a triple-threat athlete who played varsity field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse, winning all-conference and/or all-state honors in each sport. A natural leader, she served as co-head of the Athletic Association, dorm prefect, and was chosen as captain of the Hound spirit team by her peers. She is the daughter of Laura and Stewart Moan of Middleburg and will attend Boston College.
2D Studio Art Award winner Winley Turner participated in multiple clubs and sports at various times throughout her years at Foxcroft. She was also a dedicated member of the Hound spirit team. Winley is the daughter of Katie and Kameron Turner of Middleburg and will attend Tennessee State University this fall.
Olivia Warr was a dedicated student and athlete, earning AP Scholar recognition as well as all-conference honors in both varsity field hockey and lacrosse over the years. A leader in the campus community, Olivia was co-head of the Athletic Association, a dorm leader, and was chosen painter for the Hound spirit team by her peers. The daughter of Hester Warr and the late Hudnall Ware of Middleburg and Nick Warr of Micheldever, England, Olivia will attend Washington & Lee University, where she has signed on to their track & field team.
The recipient of an Inspired Learning Summer Grant during her senior year, Ellie Wicht used the funds to create an educational video about foster care. An enthusiastic member of the campus community, she served as head of the Service Organization, assistant head of the Activities Committee, and dorm leader. A member of varsity field hockey, where she received all-conference recognition, she also played varsity soccer. Ellie is the daughter of Kirsten and Dan Wicht of Middleburg and will attend Boston University.
Kuiper Schaffer is a talented singer who earned the Music Award for their impact on the School’s music program. An active member of the campus community, they served as head of the Techies Club, co-head of the E-sports Club, historian for the International Thespian Society, a dorm leader, and was chosen to serve as mascot for the Fox spirit team. The child of Dianne and Ray Schaffer of Ashburn, VA, Kuiper will attend Lawrence College.
Alexa Cuozzo is the Digital Arts Award winner and a Fine Arts Concentration graduate who wrote, filmed, and edited her own short film, “The Painting,” as her concentration project. She also received an Inspired Learning Summer Grant during her senior year, which she put toward creating her film. Alexa served as a dorm leader and on multiple clubs throughout her years at Foxcroft and was chosen as assistant painter for the Hound spirit team during her senior year. The daughter of Melanie and Chris Cuozzo of Leesburg, VA, Alexa will attend Purchase College.
An AP Scholar with Honor, all-conference recognized athlete in field hockey, basketball, and soccer, and accomplished equestrian, Isabelle Munoz received the Athletic Director’s Award for her leadership on and off the field and the Good Hands Award for riding, honoring her understanding of her horse both in and out of the saddle. Chosen by her peers to be captain of the Fox spirit team, Isabelle’s leadership extended beyond the field and ring, participating as a member of the Honor Council and a dorm prefect. The daughter of Nicole Munoz of Leesburg, VA, and Jarrod Munoz of Prosper, TX, Isabelle will attend Syracuse University.Â
Helen Ventikos — valedictorian, recipient of the STEM Science Award, and Cum Laude Society member — was also a STEM Concentration graduate who investigated the psychological benefits of nature while simultaneously mapping Foxcroft’s trail system. She had a passion for STEAM as the co-founder of the School’s Robotics Team and co-head of the Cyber Patriot Club, as well as a talented artist who earned a Scholastic Art and Writing National Gold Medal for her photography. The daughter of Christa and Panagiotis Ventikos of Purcellville, VA, Helen will attend the University of Texas at Austin.
