Kristiane Pellegrino and White Oaks Joy Ride Speed to the Take2 Thoroughbred Jumper Championship at the Upperville Colt & Horse Show Presented by MARS Equestrian™
UPPERVILLE, VA – Kristiane Pellegrino and White Oaks Joy Ride dominated the Take2 Thoroughbred Jumpers at the 171st Upperville Colt & Horse Show presented by MARS Equestrian™, securing the Division Championship as well as the win in the Upperville Thoroughbred Jumper Classic. Martha Nevins’ Classic Brother earned the Reserve Championship ribbon with rider Beverly Alcock.
“He was a rock star all week and I am so proud of him,” said Pellegrino. “This is his second time being champion here and he is an amazing horse. He saved me when I lost my stirrup and a rein!”
“Mel,” a 9-year-old gelding by Hat Trick (JPN) and out of Pegasus Song by Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, had a short racing career before landing with Pellegrino. A true and willing partner, he and Pellegrino not only show but foxhunt with the Piedmont Fox Hounds. Pellegrino also taught him to play polo.
UCHS is the oldest horse show in the U.S. Founded in 1853 as a one-day show to encourage better breeding and care of horses, the show has grown to a weeklong tradition with more than 2,000 equestrian and equine pairs competing in a variety of disciplines. Many of the continent’s top professional riders as well as amateurs compete under the spectacular setting featuring the famous oaks at Grafton Farm.
