About the Artist, Isabelle Truchon: Isabelle is a working artist living in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Her work has been featured throughout Virginia in galleries, interior design studios, wineries and restaurants. Isabelle is very honored to have her artwork now featured in the lobby at Salamander Resort where a national and international audience can enjoy her painting. About her life as an artist, Isabelle notes “My life is a web of experiences interwoven through personal relationships with fellow humans, other living beings, and the environment, as well as an instinctual quest for truth and non-judgment. These fundamental factors are the driving force in my artistic journey, which explores social-human themes through organic elements, nature, and animals.”

Earlier this year, Isabelle traveled to Camargue, France to photograph, and then sketch and paint, the wild horses of the Camargue region. Isabelle notes: “Into the Morning Light in/of the Camargue, is photo #897, one of the first of the horses that I saw. It was taken on a crisp almost cold early Spring morning. Just as the sun crept over the horizon and shared its soft morning light, and the sound of hoofs on the earthy soil became more deliberate as seconds passed on, there in front of me, appearing like a mirage, the herd materialized. “

Camargue is located in the south of France. Cartographically speaking, it is situated in the central crescent shape along the French Mediterranean shore near Arles, and Montpelier. Here, the mouth of the great Rhone River empties its contents into the sea. It’s close proximity to the border of Spain, brings a strong Spanish cultural influence to the region which is vividly experienced through its cuisine, music (home of the Gypsy Kings), dialect, population, and the animals; most notably, the semi-feral white Camargue horses. The people of this region strongly identify with the bulls and horses. It is not uncommon to find a tombstone for a bull, or a horse in a park, or on a farm. There is profound love and respect for these animals among the population.
