Airing Tonight: WETA’s “Get Out of Town” Comes to Middleburg

Written by Middleburg Life Staff

Airing tonight, the latest episode of WETA “Get Out of Town,” hosted by the dynamic mother-daughter duo Laurita and Lauren, will showcase Middleburg. A return visit for Laurita and first-time experience for Lauren, they break down what they enjoyed most about their time in town and what viewers can look forward to in tonight’s episode.

“Middleburg is just the cutest city. It’s precious,” Laurita shares.

Though the segment is roughly 30 minutes, Laurita and Lauren spent four days enjoying the best of Middleburg food, shopping, equestrian events, and, just in time for Virginia Wine Month, a day at Boxwood Winery.

“We ate really good food out there,” Lauren says. “We ate at King Street Oyster Bar. And we are big seafood girls, because we are from the Maryland area.” Traditionally not an oyster fan, Lauren thinks King Street may have converted her. “We had the Oysters Rockefeller and they were really good. The char-grilled ones with the cheese on top — delicious!”

The episode was filmed in April, giving the duo the opportunity to experience the Middleburg Spring Races at Glenwood Park. “It’s such a fascinating sport,” Lauren says of her time at the races. “It is such a craft, a skill, that is extraordinary.”

Laurita adds, “And the people are so nice, welcoming, and lovely. Everyone was out for a good time.”

“We got some really cute hats,” Lauren remembers. And, speaking of shopping, “Great boutiques all up and down the main strip,” she says.

“There was a little thrift store, a great bookstore, little places to pop in and have a cup of coffee and scone,” Laurita continues.

After a full day of fun, the pair returned to Salamander Resort & Spa to recuperate. Lauren shares, “The Salamander is amazing, especially being Black-owned, woman-owned. It is a lovely place and we got the chance to meet Sheila Johnson, which was a bonus.”

In conclusion, Laurita finishes, “For us, [Middleburg] covered all the things we like to do. We like to eat. We like to shop. We like to have fun. And we like to have a good glass of wine.”

The episode will air at 9 p.m. on WETA PBS and 8 p.m. on WETA Metro. Be sure to tune in for the full episode and to hear about all of Lauren and Laurita’s favorite spots!
