Local 2024 Virginia Governor’s Cup Winners
Written by Middleburg Life Staff
The list of gold, silver, and bronze Virginia Governor’s Cup winners has been announced, with many local wineries and vineyards winning big. To celebrate, we reached out to Hunt Country wineries and vineyards to share a little bit about their Gold Medal-winning wine.
Greenhill Winery & Vineyards – Middleburg, VA
Gold Medal Winner: 2021 Tannat
“Our 2021 Tannat is a testament to our winemaking philosophy at Greenhill of allowing our fermentation and aging choices to accentuate the uniqueness of each vintage. We believe we were able to capture exactly this in our Tannat, as well as focusing on allowing a more fruit-forward yet balanced expression of a varietal that traditionally has a heavy tannic identity.” – Jed Gray, General Manager.
Chrysalis Vineyards at The Ag District – Middleburg, VA
Gold Medal: 2021 Norton Locksley Reserve
“I’m very excited to see the burgeoning interest in our great native grape, Norton, and we’re honored to receive a Governor’s Cup Gold Medal, a top honor for wine quality. This is our grape, Virginia’s own, and we should all be proud of its world-renowned heritage and the encouraging prospects for its restored recognition as one of the world’s fine and unique red wines.” – Jennifer McCloud
The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards – Hamilton, VA
Gold Medal Winners: 2022 Viognier, 2020 Cabernet Franc, 2021 Cabernet Franc, 2020 Petit Verdot
“Andrew and Maryann Fialdini, the owners, are pleased with the four Gold Medals that we won this year in the Governor’s Cup competition! We give our winemaker, Michael Shaps, credit for working with us to bring the best possible Virginia wines to our guests. We hope you come by and enjoy them, as well as the six Silver Medals we also won.” – The Team at The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards.
