MIDDLEBURG CONCERT SERIES JOINS THE EMBASSY OF MEXICO TO PRESENT “UNA NOCHE EN MEXICO”
The Middleburg Concert Series travels south of the border for its September performance. Famous Mexican soprano, Dolores Martinez Rangel and accordionist/pianist, Jose Alfonso Valadez will join Artistic Director, Dr. Alan Saucedo (cello) and Cynthia Saucedo (violin) in a lively rendition of traditional Mexican music.
Many Mexican favorites such as “Besame Mucho”, Solamente una vez (You belong to my heart), Sabor a mi (Be true to me), will be featured on the program. The concert is presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico and made possible by the generous sponsorship of Ann MacMahon, Sheridan MacMahon Realtors as well as grants from the Town of Middleburg and the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. The concert will be held on Sunday, September 17th at 4 PM at the Middleburg United Methodist Church, corner of Washington and Pendleton Streets.
Dolores Martinez is a versatile international vocalist whose expansive repertoire includes opera, huapango, bolero, son and music indicative of Northern Mexico. At the invitation of Luciano Pavarotti she has presented concerts in Rome, Lisbon and Modena. Jose Valadez will make a return engagement to the Middleburg Concert Series where he awed the audience with his amazing dexterity on the accordion keyboard at the September concert in 2015. He is currently a member of the faculty of La Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza de Monterey where he teaches Collaborative Piano, a talent which become obvious as soon as he touches the accordion.
There will be tamales and sweets for the reception immediately following the concert sponsored by Briones Auto Repair of Winchester and La Familia Saucedo and hosted by the artists and Elsa Borja and Alberto Fierro from the Embassy of Mexico. Admission to both the concert and reception is free, Donations are welcome. For further information please visit www.middleburgconcertseries.com, email [email protected] or call 540-303-7127.
